Features

Everything VirtuaOS does

Virtual machines, containers, storage, networking and security — in a single platform.

QEMU / KVM

Virtual machines

Full lifecycle

Create, start, stop, restart, force off, reset, clone, rename (ACLs, snapshots, backups and firewall follow), autostart.

Virtual hardware

UEFI/BIOS, OVMF Secure Boot, virtio/SATA/IDE/SCSI disks, virtio/QXL/VGA GPU, virtio/e1000/rtl8139 NICs, x86_64 and aarch64.

Performance

host-passthrough CPU with consistent topology, virtio-blk IOThreads and virtio-net multiqueue.

Windows guests

One click inserts the VirtIO driver ISO (downloaded automatically). QEMU and SPICE agent status and guest IPs displayed.

Templates and ISOs

ISO and template library for amd64/arm64, export VMs to templates, remote catalogue importable from dep.auxinux.ca/TEMPLATES.

Crash detection

VM and LXC crash detection, optional automatic restart and cause log.

Consoles

Reach your machines from anywhere

In-browser SPICE

Automatic resize, clipboard, Opus audio (Safari included), Ctrl+Alt+Del, full screen, detachable window.

noVNC and terminal

noVNC for graphical display, xterm.js for LXC and Docker text consoles, host shell in the browser.

RDP Remote

One xrdp gateway per VM: download an .rdp file, no RDP server needed in the guest — like Hyper-V vmconnect.

Containers

LXC, production-ready

  • Full management: multiple NICs, snapshots, backups and restore, rename synced with the hostname.
  • Pick the storage pool at creation.
  • Shared GPU: /dev/dri (Intel/AMD) and /dev/nvidia* — great for Ollama and local AI.
  • Persistent USB passthrough (for example a printer for CUPS).
  • Rootfs protections: anti-symlink writes, no permission changes by the runner.

Docker

Built-in Docker and Docker Compose

  • Full container editing: ports, volumes, env vars, image, command, network, CPU and RAM.
  • Docker Compose with persistent .yml files: upload, up/down/ps/logs/config/restart.
  • Volumes, exec, prune, real rename.
  • bridge, host, overlay, macvlan and ipvlan networks — to give a container an additional public IP.
  • Autostart through the unless-stopped policy.

Data

Storage and backups

Live snapshots and backups

For VMs and LXC, without freezing the machine. zstd archives with a real progress bar, restore as-is or modified. On the VDM: repositories with retention (7 daily, 4 weekly, 6 monthly by default), optional encryption, scheduling and sha256 checks.

Storage pools

Local directory, NFS (v3 to 4.2), SMB/CIFS (1.0 to 3.1.1), GlusterFS and S3 (AWS, MinIO, Backblaze B2, generic). Content: ISOs, VMs, backups, templates, containers, disks.

Disk management

Create a pool directly on a disk, format as ext4/XFS/Btrfs, wipe, partition as GPT/MBR, mdadm software RAID.

ZFS

libvirt ZFS storage driver installed; OpenZFS 2.4.4 provided for the VirtuaOS kernel as DKMS (openzfs-zfs-dkms).

Networking

Networking built for dedicated servers

Persistent bridges

Compatible with ifupdown, netplan and NetworkManager, IPv6 preserved, NAT. The virtua-bridge-heal service repairs bridges automatically.

Failover IPs / OVH

Bridge with fixed virtual MAC, gratuitous ARP, lock-out protections. “cloud-bridged” and routed /32 bridge presets.

Firewall

TCP/UDP allow/forward rules bound to each resource.

Security and monitoring

Multi-user and auditable

Roles and quotas

ADMIN/USER roles, per-resource and per-user ACLs, per-client resource quotas.

Strong authentication

MFA by email (SMTP) or SMS (Twilio), CSRF, rate limiting, Zod validation. Initial password must be changed.

Let's Encrypt SSL

ACME HTTP-01 or DNS-01 certificates, SSH access panel (key only, key + password, password).

Health

Services, updates, maintenance, LXC permission audit.

Logs

Tasks, Audit and Security tabs; immutable security events.

Bilingual

Web interface and CLI in French and English (virtua setlang FR|EN).
