VDM · Virtua Datacenter Manager

All your nodes, one view

The VDM is VirtuaOS’s centralized management interface: it drives each node’s API and relays their consoles.

VDM features

Global inventory

Every VM, LXC and Docker container across all nodes, in one place.

Central actions

Start, stop, clone, back up, delete and migrate a VM (offline, through shared storage or direct copy).

Shared storage

NFS, SMB/CIFS, GlusterFS and S3 declared once for the whole datacenter.

Scheduled backups

Backup repositories with retention, optional encryption, quotas and sha256 verification.

Tasks and log

Task tracking and a centralized log of every operation.

Roles

admin and viewer (read-only) accounts.

High availability

A VDM that stays up

The VDM runs in a dedicated Debian 13 LXC container (auxinux-vdm). In active/passive HA mode, this container fails over automatically between nodes thanks to Pacemaker/Corosync.

Requirements:

  • at least 2 members and quorum;
  • STONITH / fencing configured;
  • root SSH access between members;
  • a shared cluster filesystem (NFS/CIFS are refused for the VDM database).
sudo vos vdm ha enable
vos vdm ha status

Install the VDM

One VDM per datacenter. Nodes must run Virtua 0.7.32 or newer and have stable IPs.

  1. 1

    Install the VDM on a node

    sudo vos vdm install
    vos vdm status

    The VDM is created in a dedicated LXC.

  2. 2

    Open the console

    Go to http://<LXC-IP>:8440, sign in with admin / admin123 and change the password (mandatory).

  3. 3

    Add the nodes

    The VDM connects to each Virtua node’s API with a dedicated token.

  4. 4

    Maintain

    sudo vos vdm update # update
    sudo vos vdm movenode node2 # move the VDM
    sudo vos vdm uninstall # uninstall

High availability applies to the VDM itself. For VMs, VirtuaOS provides crash detection with automatic restart on the same node; migration between nodes is offline.
