Optimizations

Latency

Full PREEMPT with PREEMPT_DYNAMIC (back to throughput with preempt=lazy), HZ=1000, autogroup, uclamp.

Memory

MGLRU, zstd ZRAM with writeback, PSI for systemd-oomd.

I/O

BFQ and Kyber schedulers, io_uring. BTRFS and zstd built in to make restores reliable.

Gaming

NTSYNC for Wine/Proton, 32-bit emulation, Xbox, DualSense/DualShock, Switch Pro and Steam controllers, CAKE against bufferbloat.

Graphics

Intel (i915, xe), AMD (amdgpu, including GCN 1/2), NVIDIA (nouveau). The proprietary NVIDIA driver builds through DKMS.

Laptops

Suspend and hibernate, ThinkPad, ASUS, Dell, HP, Acer, MSI, Lenovo drivers, MediaTek MT7921E/MT7925E Wi-Fi, Intel BE200 (Wi-Fi 7).

Multimedia

HDA and SOF audio (recent Intel laptops, AMD APUs), CS35L41/CS35L56 amplifiers, UVC webcams.

Containers and VMs

LXC, Docker, KVM, cgroups v2, AppArmor, Landlock and BTF remain fully functional.

Security

Speculative-execution mitigations enabled. No build-CPU-specific tuning: the kernel runs on any amd64 machine.

Install the kernel on Debian 13

Already included in AuxiNuxOS. On an existing Debian 13 system:

  1. 1

    Add the repository key

    sudo wget -O /usr/share/keyrings/auxinuxos-archive-keyring.gpg \
      https://dep.auxinux.ca/AUXINUXOS/auxinuxos-archive-keyring.gpg
  2. 2

    Declare the source

    echo 'deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/auxinuxos-archive-keyring.gpg arch=amd64] https://dep.auxinux.ca/AUXINUXOS kernel main' \
      | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/auxinuxos-kernel.list

    Never use [trusted=yes].

  3. 3

    Install and reboot

sudo apt update && sudo apt install kernel-auxinuxos
    sudo reboot

The previous kernel remains available in GRUB, under “Advanced options”.

The series is pinned to 7.2: the kernel follows 7.2.x fixes without jumping to 7.3 on its own. The kernel-dev channel (kernel-auxinuxos-dev package) can coexist with the production kernel; you choose at boot. OpenZFS is available on request through DKMS (openzfs-zfs-dkms).
