FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is AuxiNuxOS free?
Yes. No license, no subscription. The AuxiNuxOS code is under GPL-3.0-or-later.
What is it based on?
On Debian 13 “Trixie”, with KDE Plasma on Wayland and the custom kernel-auxinuxos 7.2 kernel.
Can an update break my system?
A snapshot is taken before every update. If something goes wrong, sudo auxi rollback or the GRUB restore menu brings the system back. If the desktop no longer starts, boot protection takes care of it.
Are my files affected by a restore?
No. /home and your Flatpak apps are never modified by a restore.
Can I keep Windows?
Yes, by using Calamares from the live desktop (“Try”). The “Install NOW” installer uses the whole disk.
Why disable Secure Boot?
The AuxiNuxOS kernel is not signed yet; with Secure Boot on, GRUB refuses to load it (bad shim signature).
Will my Windows games work?
Many will, thanks to Steam + Proton, Heroic or Lutris, and the NTSYNC-enabled kernel. Each game or app runs in its own space. This layer has not been tested on real hardware yet.
What about my NVIDIA card?
The open nouveau driver is used by default. The proprietary NVIDIA driver can be built through DKMS: the kernel is configured for it.
Can I use APT and DEB packages?
Yes. Flatpak is preferred, but auxi install --deb installs DEB packages, and sudo auxi set apt=true re-enables direct APT.
Do Docker, LXC and KVM work?
Yes, the kernel keeps everything needed (cgroups v2, KVM, AppArmor…). For a virtualization server, see VirtuaOS instead.
Is it ready for daily use?
Version 0.2.0 is in development and validated in virtual machines only. Try it in live mode or in a VM first. See the known limitations.
